The event will gather teams of players representing nine nations who qualified for the final stage. This year's event will feature players from Italy, United States, Argentina, Philippines, United Kingdom, Spain, Slovakia, Ukraine and France.
Members of the teams that made it to the World Cup of Poker Grand Final received a prize package that includes travel and accommodation at the Atlantis Resort and Casino in The Bahamas. Once there, each team member will compete in a single table tournament to determine their team’s starting chip stack for the World Cup of Poker Final Table.
The live Final Table will be a ‘Tag Team’ event, where all team members will rotate in and out of play until one team takes overall victory. They will get to claim the national glory, $100,000 and the title of World Cup of Poker VII Champions!
Launched in 2004, the first World Cup of Poker was won by Costa Rica , which also claimed the title in 2005. Poland won the WCP in 2006, followed by the United States in 2007, and Germany in 2008. In 2010, the victory went to team Taiwan. They took home the $100,000 first place prize money, ($20,000 per player), plus trophies and the all-important title of World Cup of Poker VI Champions.
Poker Stars will give players an additional incentive after the World Cup of Poker VI. All players who partake in the Stage I $1 and 1 FPP qualifiers for the eventual winning team, will be invited to play an exclusive $100,000 Freeroll. So, even if you didn’t make it onto your national team, you can still cheer them on. If they go on to win the title at the Live Final, you’ll get to play the Freeroll on Sunday, January 30, 2011.
