• Washington D.C. will Soon Enjoy Legal Online Poker

DCIn the coming months, residents of Washington D.C. will be able to play online poker legally in hotspots around the city. This will eventually lead to D.C. poker players being able to play online poker from their homes as well. Of course this idea does have its critics, with some not so convinced that it is the best move for the city.

Beginning with a few test runs in 20-30 locations around the city, regulated poker in hotels and bars will be available to residents by September 1, 2011. And as soon as the end of the year, players will be able to access these regulated online poker sites from their homes as well.

Poker pro Phil Hellmuth weighed in on the move saying, “I still think that people are looking for a place to play poker and it wouldn’t be surprising if you had a lot more players than you think start playing. It’s a nice test, sure, but I think there’s so few people…that you might not achieve critical mass for players on the site under those conditions.”

While many states have considered regulating online poker for their residents, so far only Washington D.C. has successfully passed legislation and built an online poker network for its players.

I know this article says by September 1, 2011 but it's my understanding that the advisory meetings have been postponed to mid-September to get feedback from residents.
