    Phil Laak

grinding away now into his 24th hour running good
Phil Laak started on his attempt to break the record for marathon poker playing. “The Unabomber,” who is looking to break the current record of 78 hours by playing 80, has been keeping fans up-to-date with frequent Tweets from the felt. After five hours of play, Laak let his followers know through the Twitterverse, “5 down / 75 to go. Stuck 2500. Blech!”

A couple of hours later, Laak was maintaining positive thoughts: “8.5/71.5 (8hr mark was -2k – still at -2k). Feels good as I was at -3300 at hour 6.” Following that low point, the Unabomber Poker pro went on a heater and was able to slowly climb out of the hole.

For those that wanted to watch his assault on the record, Laak let his fans know by Tweeting, “17 hrs down / 63 to go. (Stuck 430$).” He passed the break even mark at approximately 9:30am PT (“First time I have crossed over the “breakeven line” in 19 hrs!”) and, as of about 11:00am PT seemed to be running well: “Top pair, w flush draw and runner runner strt draw for me vs over pair for seat 8. Sick dbl up w rivered spade! Ahead 3,541!”

I think once he gets deeper into play he'll be losing more and more as his concentration and ability to focus drift.

he has a plan he is drinking water now but will switching to green tea then back tea then for the final day red bull although he has five minute breaks and allowed himself to accumulate break minutes as a bank storage when he gets later on the quest he is going to relize how hard a quest to stay sharp... I hope he ends up gaining a few dolllars because it goes to a charity to help disabled and disadvataged children a summer camp experience on big sebago lake in maine... personally I participate in their ice fishing derby fund raiser in the winter.

The current official record for continuous poker play is set by Larry Olmsted and he played for 72 hours, 2 minutes at the Foxwoods casino in Connecticut back in 2004.

But the unofficial record which is not set by Guinness is Paul Zimbler's 78-hour, 25-minute run in September in London.

A note on the side... The most online Poker tables played in 1 hour

Bertrand Grospellier 'ElkY' in April this year managed to play 62 online Poker tables in an hour, setting a new Guinness World Record at an event organised by PokerStars in Monte Carlo.
