The wait is almost over.
Today, the 15th of Dicember at 8 p.m. the Cosmopolitan will open its front doors, welcoming guests to its eclectic mix of restaurants and boutique retail shops.
There is, of course, a casino, convention space, and the assorted amenities people have come to expect from Las Vegas.
But gambling may not become the star attraction at the Cosmopolitan, which is focused on creating a new Vegas experience through its vertical design and unique offerings.
Where else on the Strip will you find a designer sneaker boutique like CRSVR, whose other location, in Santa Barbara, Calif., is known to draw crowds when a new shoe is released.
The Cosmopolitan’s restaurant lineup also relies heavily on popular New York hangouts like Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar and Grill and STK steakhouse.
Bringing those brands to Las Vegas was all part of the property’s plan to entice customers with something different.
That same philosophy can be applied to the resort’s 2,995 rooms, which feature individually-designed wallpaper in the closets and smaller details, such as drinking glasses, handpicked by hotel staff.
There has been much talk that Wednesday’s grand opening signals the end of the Strip’s boom era, a two-decade stretch that began with the opening of the Mirage. At the time, that property’s $630 million construction cost was the most ever. How times have changed.
If the Cosmopolitan is the Strip’s last big hurrah before an extended slumber, at least it’s giving visitors a reason to celebrate.
Opening night festivities will include a performance on the Boulevard Pool by Brandon Flowers, frontman for the Killers.
On New Year’s Eve, VIP guests will be treated to a concert featuring Jay-Z and Coldplay titled “Viva La Hov,” that will also be shown live on the property’s digital marquee.
With that, the Cosmopolitan will be off and running.
Looks like it will be a great place and im sure people will love it.
