    Zappo's Rock and Roll Marathon

I've started training to do the half. I forgot how long it took to train. It's a serious time commitment. I'm running 3 days a week, short 2-3 mile runs on Wednesday and Friday then a long run on Sunday.

It's also getting very humid in dc. I'm trying to get as much sleep as possible the night before a run and drink tons of water. I'm tying to prevent cramping.

Additionally I'm still lifting weights 3 days a week.

I had been giving myself Monday off but now I ride AJ exercise bike for about 30 minutes to get some light cardio in.

I hope my body doesn't break down.

I've already booked our flights and hotel. If you're running this event on Dec 4 let me know. Would love to meet up and buy you a drink after the race, replace some carbs.

Training is going well, I'm regularly doing 3+ miles on my short runs and tomorrow for my long run I'm looking at 4-5 miles depending on how much time I have before work.

Unfortunately due to the extreme temperatures and humidity in DC it's having an impact on my training. Well, the temps and working 60-70 hours a week. But I put in a good run today along the mall around 11am, had a Gu around the Lincoln monument, then chugged home past the Capitol.

Did about a 6 mile run in a shade under 50 minutes. Next sunday is 7 miles. I'll be on the exercise bike tomorrow night, running 3 miles on Wednesday and 4 on Friday.

Another 6 mile run in the books. Only disappointing part was I ruined my iPod when water/ sweat got into the headphone jack and it died about 1.5 miles into my run .

Ran 8 miles, pretty good run except for the fact I ran in front of traffic and almost got hit by a car (my bad).

    Booooo yahhhhhhh

Thanks nature. Put 9 miles in last Saturday. Had to slightly alter my training schedule since my wife did the National Triathlon on Sunday and I spent my morning watching her compete.

9 miles again this coming Sunday, aiming for a good pace. Only about 25 days left.

9 miles down in 1 hour, 20 minutes, and 45 seconds.

Not bad. Great day for running, about 65, slight breeze, slightly cloudy.

Unfortunately since my last post I got a bad cold. The people I work with are animals.

They refuse to cover their face when they sneeze or cough. Now half the office is sick. Hey buttholes, you have paid sick leave, use it.

Anyways, I took a week off of running, then slowly got back into it. I only did 2-4 miles on Wednesday and Friday. This past Sunday I ran the Army ten miler. It was awesome. I had a surprisingly decent time. Not as fast as my training but there were a few factors. Mainly the amount of people. If you are want to see how fast you can do 10 miles, this is not your race. How the course is set up there are numerous choke points. I had to slow down a few times and I had to zig zag in and out a lot. Don't get me wrong, you have an entire 2-3 lane road, but I found myself running in grass on the shoulder or on the median a lot.

That being said, it's an inspiring race. I saw quite a few veterans running on prosthetics and they always deservedly got the most cheers.

If you can, definitely be a part of the 35k people that run this race.

I will post my mile pace whenever it becomes available. I am guessing it was around 9 minutes.

At the end I felt great, could have kept going. My goal for the half marathon is around an 8 minute mile.

Training for that continues tomorrow morning.

Last week was Grey, this week? Not so much. I'm on track to bill just under 80 hours. Haven't had time to work out and I only did runs of 3 and 2 miles. I'm averaging 5 hours of sleep a night and didn't get to run 10 miles today. I will have to try and fit it in tomorrow somehow.
